For our 6t
h anniversary Jared took me to Hawaii. We left the kids behind with Jared's parents and sisters to watch. THANK YOU SO MUCH for watching them. I missed them terribly but it was good for Jared and I to get away and have some time just to ourselves. This is the first day in Oahu. We stayed in Oahu for three days and then flew to Kauai and stayed there for seven days. Here we're at the Oahu airport. They gave us an lei greeting when we got off the plane. This lei smelled so good it had honeysuckle flowers on it.
This is a pineapple growing amongst the flowers. I thought is was so neat I had to take a picture with it. Jared thought I was crazy for wanting a picture of a pineapple. He despises pineapple. I love pineapple on pizza and he will not eat it.
On our first day in Oahu we went to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Here Jared is posing with one of the statues.

We went on a tour and they had us throw these arrows. Jared was awesome at it. They also had us use these ball things and Jared was the only one that could do it. Our tour guide told us we couldn't go until one of us in the group of about 200 could do it and I look over and my husband is doing it. I was so proud of him.

They gave us
tattoos if you know my husband he wants a
tattoo so bad. This is the closest he will ever get to having one.

I couldn't believe that this guy with bare feet could climb this palm tree so fast.
Our tour guide. He was such a nice guy. He told us a lot about his culture too. He told us that in his culture they believe that the hair on your head is sacred and that no one touches another person's head because they believe that you're taking their wisdom away from them. So they have their mothers brush their hair and keep every strand of hair with them their entire life and when they die they are buried with their hair. He said if a strand of hair fell on the ground they would pick it up. They also believed that if someone took a strand of hair away from you they could curse you, kind of that
voo doo stuff.
At the
luau we got
lei-ed again. We had poi (it tasted like rice, lots of people didn't like it, it is fermented taro), roasted pig, and I thought their sweet potatoes were so interesting they looked like beets that purple color. So
every time I would eat them, in my head I was thinking I am eating a beet but it was a sweet potato.

They had it in the ground and pulled it up from under these coals.
This is what Oahu looks like. It reminded me a lot of Los Angeles. Lots of big buildings and it was hard to see the ocean. Jared decided if we ever go back to Hawaii we will not go to this Island again. It wasn't what I really expected. Lots of poor people, people digging in the dumpsters and begging for food, prostitutes, several scary places you couldn't go to after dark.

U.S.S Arizona: Here is your history lesson: We went on a tour for Pearl Harbor. That is why we are wearing those neon green stickers. The U.S.S Arizona, the U.S.S Utah, and The U.S.S. Oklahoma were the only ships that got stuck. See the little white building in the background. It is the the U.S.S Arizona memorial. We rode out on a boat that took us on top of it. The U.S.S Arizona is underneath it. You can see the top of it when you're out there. There is still oil leaking from it today. We saw lots of oil coming out of it when we were out there. We asked them why they don't pump the oil out and they said it is because there are still bodies down there and they believe it would disrupt them if they did. They believe that the oil is their tears. It gave me an awakening of how grateful I am to our service men. The U.S.S Arizona blew up from the inside out but the men on the U.S.S Utah and U.S.S. Oklahoma weren't as lucky their boats flipped and got stuck on the side and there was no way to get the men out they said for days afterwards they could still hear the cries from the inside of those boats but there was nothing they could do to get them out. Sad :(

Kauai looked like, so beautiful. I was glad he decided to stay at this island for the remainder of our stay.
Jared talked me into going on on an 8 mile hike. If you know me I am not much of a hiker but it was worth it in the end.

The first two miles you hike to this beach it was pretty secluded.
Then you hiked through a bamboo forest and we had to cross the river about 8 times. I was nervous because there is some disease that you can get from the river and I had huge blister on the back of my feet that split open and I think that is how I got infected. If you know me I am a
hypochondriac when it comes to diseases I always think I have something. So now I think I have this disease
I look like CRAP but remember I had been hiking about 4 miles by the time this picture was taken and it was REALLY HOT Okay!
Here is what we found a the end of the hike. The most beautiful waterfall I have ever seen. You could swim in a pool at the bottom of the waterfall.
We went on a boat ride of the
Nepali Coast line. So beautiful!
This canyon is what they consider their Grand Canyon in Hawaii.
All over
Kauai there were wild roosters and hens with little babies. It's funny how when you go to a different state they use different words. For garbage they used the word rubbish. They said Mahalo everytime you left. I wasn't sure if Mahalo meant thank you or good bye.
Jared talked me into going deep sea fishing with him for 6 hours big MISTAKE! The waves were so high that I was so sea sick. I threw up the whole time. Here is my first catch a small tuna.
Here is Jared's only catch. This fish they use as bait for the biggers ones (like I caught). Jared was sick too. Everyone on the boat was throwing up except the captain. I told Jared man we paid a lot of money to make ourselves sick. Fun DAY!
Here I am reeling in the BIG ONE! It was so hard especially because in between I had to stop and puke over the side.
I can finally say that Noah is Fully potty trained hip hip hooray. I started working with him at the beginning of the summer I wanted to wait until he was showing signs of wanting to do it and when I would be home with him to do it. I'm a teacher and so I knew I would have all summer to work with him. So we started in June and by July he was a potty trained boy. I'm so glad that is over.

This little girl decided that while her parents were in Hawaii that she would start walking. When I left she was crawling and when I came home, I came home to this. She also started calling grandma, mama. So I knew I had to come home.
